Riken Keiki Launches SD-3 Series Gas Detector with Newly Developed Sensor

On September 15, Riken Keiki put on the market its new gas detector “SD-3 Series” which incorporates the signal converter which is loaded with a newly developed sensor.

The new product is an explosion-proof stationary-type detector to monitor continuously combustible, toxic and oxygen gases in the atmosphere. It is most characteristic that the gas detector attaches a newly developed “F Sensor.” The new sensor which has a product lineup of five types (non-dispersive infrared type, new ceramic type, semiconductor type, hot-wire semiconductor type, and electrochemical type) provides a 3-year sensor warranty and has a function to diagnose the deterioration of sensor as well as the life assessment. The operating temperature has a wide range from -40℃up to +70℃ which meets global standards and explosion-proof requirements of different countries. In addition, the company is planning to obtain various performance certifications like IEC/EN, ANSI/ISA and CSA.

The detected gas concentration is converted and output in the form of a 4-20 mA analog output and digital HART output signal. Other output options include Modbus (RS-485) communication.

As the optionally added output of contact point can be chosen from 3 points of gas alarm and trouble alarm, a gas detecting system can be constructed locally in combination with external equipment like alarm lamps or buzzers.

Riken Keiki already started to sell the product but the delivery is scheduled to start on November 15. The main users are expected to be oil refineries, petrochemical basic product plants, service tunnels, common ducts, power stations, vessels and off-shore facilities.
