Forecast of Decreased Demand for Optical Cables in 2020
The Japan Electric Wire Industry Association announced a forecast of decrease by 6.3% in the demand of domestic optical cable amounting to 6.01 million kmc in 2020. They pointed out the forecast of decrease is mainly attributed to the postponed constructions due to the new coronavirus.
In the segmental terms, the association forecasts the demand of public telecommunication to mark 3.50 million kmc down 5.6% compared with last year due to the postponed construction affected by the new coronavirus infection although there exist requirements for 5G by the major telecommunication companies.
As for the demand by general consumers, they forecast 2.30 million kmc down 7.2% due to the postponed plan to respond to the demand for an optical system in the cable TV network. Regarding the public-related field, they forecast a continuous demand trend of 210,000 kmc down 8.3% due to the peak-out in connection with the Tokyo Olympic Games and also the postponed constructions affected by the new coronavirus.
