Iwatani joins Battery Association for Supply Chain
Iwatani has joined the Battery Association for Supply Chain (BASC) which was established on April 1.
BASC was established for the purpose to reinforce the global competitiveness of the Japanese industries related to battery materials, parts and raw materials (so called “Battery Supply Chain) are in the member list.
The number of member companies is 28 as of March 4. In addition to the participants mainly of battery manufacturers and material/raw material producers, trading companies such as Iwatani, Mitsui and Mitsubishi.
The association is planning to develop a battery eco-system and propose various strategies aiming for realization of carbon neutral in addition to the aforementioned global competitiveness of the battery industry. Along with the plan, BASC is going to promote a proposition to form a council for the current and new international standardization plan, so that the battery supply chain can be standardized. .
Iwatani has been procuring battery materials like lithium from abroad, and is planning to develop more activities, and as for its activity in BASC, Iwatani says, “To set up a recycling system of batteries, for example, it is assumed that an establishment of a logistic chain for recycling, storage and transportation will be important. Iwatani wishes to utilize its knowledge as a “trading firm” to the maximum extent in order to contribute to the realization of decarbonized society.
