Green Innovation Fund to Develop Concrete Producing Technology Using CO2
The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) has adopted for Green Innovation Fund four themes of project on the development of production technologies of concrete and cement using carbon dioxide.
The implementation period is 10 years commencing from 2021 ending in 2030, and the scale of support amounts to 55 billion yen.
The method to absorb and fix carbon dioxide for the production of concrete and cement is being verified and developed at home and abroad as it contributes to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide.
This project aims at completing a production system capable to reduce costs as much as or lower than the current products, maximizing to reduce and fix CO2 emission throughout the process from the production of concrete material up to transportation and construction. Concurrently it also aims to establish and standardize internationally the quality control and evaluation method of CO2-fixed concrete.
In the field of cement, the company is also going to aim for the completion of a process to recover CO2 derived from limestone by the existing technology at a similar or less cost, and intends to tackle the production of carbonates from a recycled CO2 so that it can develop technologies to reuse them as a raw material of cement.
