Iwatani and Kansai Electric Power Local Hydrogen Production/Consumption Model in Hyogo and Kumamoto

Iwatani and Kansai Electric Power with other companies are going to start a feasibility study of business model to produce and use energy locally in Hyogo and Kumamoto Prefectures utilizing hydrogen from production to consumption.

The research will be implemented based upon the adoption for “The Consigned Project Related to Feasibility Study of Production and Use of Hydrogen” invited by NEDO for participation. The company will Initially investigate for the project until March 2023.
In Hyogo Prefecture they will establish a hydrogen production system coupling a system battery with a hydrogen generator in the Awaji area, intending to apply to a mobility field.

In Kumamoto Prefecture they are planning to produce green hydrogen derived from the geothermal power generation which is left unused at Oguni Town, Aso County, and to examine possibilities of use for a fuel conversion from heavy oil boiler and utilization as fuel battery of the stationary type.

The project of Hyogo Prefecture will be dealt with by Kansai Electric Power and the prefecture, while that of Kumamoto is dealt with by Kansai Electric Power, Kanden Plant and Toshiba Energy System. Iwatani Corporation will be in charge to research transportation, storage and H2 stations in both projects in the prefectures.
