Nippon Ekitan Joins Verification to Recycle and Reuse CO2 from Osaki Coolgen

Nippon Ekitan has participated in the verification project for tomato farms to reuse the CO2 recycled by Osaki Coolgen’s FC-combined coal gasification power plant in collaboration with Sera Saien as well as Osaki Coolgen in which J-Power and Chugoku Electric have jointly invested.

The Osaki Coolgen Project aiming for high-efficiency power generation using oxygen-blown IGCC is now at the third stage of “CO2 Separation and Verification of IGFC of recycling type” in which CO2 is derived from combustion waste gas and the byproduct hydrogen gas is sent to fuel gas.

In the attempt implemented at this time, the CO2 recycled here is liquefied and then is transported in a straight line to the tomato greenhouse of Sera Saien (vegetable garden) located about 35km away for the utilization to apply CO2 gas.

Nippon Ekitan which has been supplying LCO2 to Sera Saien since long ago is going to be a member of the project, and will take part in the transfer, supply, the analysis of quality, etc.

The first delivery of liquefied CO2 was made on July 27. The verification will last until the end of November, and the liquid CO2 tank trucks will be put in operation at a pace of 3 times a week. It is estimated that a supply volume of CO2 will be 300 to 350 t for a period of four months.
