AWI Builds New ASU in South India for Operation in 2024
Air Water is planning to build a new plant to produce liquefied gases of oxygen, nitrogen and argon in Chennai of southern India. After the scheduled completion in October 2023, Air Water aims to start operation in October 2024. The amount of investment will be somewhere around 4 billion yen. It will be the first ASU of Air Water in India. Chennai where the ASU is built is located in the state of Tami Nadu of the southern India which has an area of accumulated manufacturers of automobiles and motorcycles.
Air Water India of Air Water’s fully owned affiliate engaged in the local business management has so far been operating a cylinder filling plant in Chennai. With the booming demand for gases year after year, the company decided to construct a new gas liquefying plant in the area.
The planned ASU will be built attached to the cylinder filling station of Chennai. The output capacity of each gas will be 5,100Nm3/h for LO, 1,600Nm3/h for LIN and 200Nm3/h for LAr. The produced liquid gases will be supplied also to manufacturers and medical organizations around Chennai.
Air Water’s gas business in India is proceeding with the on-site gas supply to two steel makers it acquired from the industrial gas major and also with tank-truck and cylinder gas business mainly in the easter and southern areas.
As for the business strategy for the future, Air Water put up such aims as obtaining new blast furnace on-site plant with the background of regional vigorous demand and establishing an extensive business scope in the southern area. The establishing the new plant at this time is intended to make a clue to expand the business in the southern area.
Air Water India will take care of the design and production up to the installation and management of ASU. It will be Air Water’s own plant for the first time in India. The company plans to reinforce its local engineering system to meet the construction of the plant at this time.
