Marubeni Plans to Procure CO2 From Korea
Marubeni of the general trading firm giant has started to examine a plan to procure carbon dioxide in Korea for importing to Japan.
The domestic situation to supply liquefied carbon dioxide is getting worse year after year due to the operating condition of crude gas suppliers and machine troubles. As the demand stays at a comparatively stable level on the other hand, Marubeni anticipates occurrence of some needs for imported carbon dioxide and has decided to make a feasibility study of importing in collaboration with Approtium (Ulsan Metropolitan City) of South Korean hydrogen/CO2 producer. It now produces hydrogen by the steam reforming method using LNG or LP gas as fuel and liquefies by-product CO2 gas for commercial purposes. Marubeni has a plan to take over some part of it for transportation into Japan.
Approtium originated in Ulsan Oxygen founded in 1964 has facilities having a production capacity of 150,000 Nm3/h of hydrogen and 350 t per day of liquefied carbon dioxide, and delivers to the neighboring users as well as makes the piping supply of hydrogen using the pipeline of approx.60Km to the Ulsan Petrochemical Industrial Complex. The company has announced to the public its plan to raise the production capacity of LCO2 up to 1,100 t per day in 2024.
