Iwatani Malaysia Acquires Local CFC Distributors to Reinforce Refrigerant Business
Iwatani Malaysia of Iwatani’s Malaysian Affiliate acquired Westech Chemicals and ISO Kimia (both headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor) that are engaged in the refrigerant business in Malaysia. The two companies established in 2003 are local distributors who import and distribute CFC gas.
Westech Chemicals has as CFC filling plant in Shah Alam where the company is headquartered, and ISO Kimia deals with the sales of refrigerant-related equipment as well as gas.
Though their business performance is not disclosed, it is said that they are developing the business extensively across the country.
According to Iwatani Malaysia, the country is going to allot an import quota of refrigerant gas to each company from 2024 based on the GWP value converted from the import record for a period from 2020 to 2022. The government is planning a quantitative control to import refrigerant gases.
The company has so far been selling rather small quantity of refrigerant gas in Malaysia. However, anticipating further increase of demand for CFC with the incoming mother factories of Japanese manufacturers as well as the increasing population and economic growth, the company decided to bring under its umbrella the two companies which are engaged in the refrigerant gas business across the country in order to secure an import quota allotment of refrigerant gas. That is why the company came to the acquisition at this time.
In addition, the company intends to propose switching to low GWP gases and also to advance into the recycling and recycling business of CFC which could be the first attempt in Malaysia.
As for the future strategy, the company shows its planning to tie up with its group corporations existing in Thailand and Indonesia, to realize exporting of refrigerants to each Southeast Asian country.
