Iwatani newly built and expanded refrigeration plants in Thailand and Indonesia and started operation in January 2024. In the plants Iwatani is going to not only make subdivided filling of CFC gas but also tackles the recovering and reusing business of refrigerants installing recycling equipment for the first time in both countries.

Following the reinforcement of the Kigali Amendment, it is anticipated in the developing countries including the two countries that the demand for recycled refrigerants will grow among the air-conditioning and automobile manufacturers. Iwatani’s aim is to respond to such a booming demand.
In Thailand, Iwatani newly built a facility capable to fill refrigerants of 2,000t per year and recycle 150t per year in the Bangkok Gas Center of helium filling station possessed by Iwatani Corporation Thailand which is Iwatani’s local corporation. They say that Thailand is the largest market of refrigerants in the Southeast Asia, where demand is increasing for refrigerants of low GWP in the air-conditioning, refrigerator and automobile fields.

Thailand has so far imported and distributed refrigerants. In order to reinforce the business system to cope with such growing demand, Iwatani has decided the investment.

Bangkok Ai-TOA, adjacent to the Gas Center of the Iwatani’s Group company, manufactures the fan guards for outdoor units of air conditioners. Iwatani intends to make the most of synergy with such an existing company.

In Indonesia, on the other hand, Iwatani reinforced the refrigerant filling capacity of Iwatani Industrial Gas (Indonesia) up to 2,000t per year of two times or more than before. In addition, a recycling facility of refrigerant has been introduced having an output capacity of 300t per year which is larger than the one in Thailand. Also in Indonesia, the domestic demand for refrigerants is expanding following the increase in population and the rise in the income level of people.

Preparing for the anticipated expansion of demand, Iwatani intends to reinforce the gas filling facilities and wishes to have more items to handle by means of starting newly the collection and recycling business of refrigerants.

Recently Iwatani has been promoting reinforcement of refrigerant business in Southeast Asia. In November 2023, Iwatani bought two local companies doing the refrigerant business through Iwatani Corporation Malaysia of local corporation.
