Mitsui E&S sells High-Pressure Hydrogen Compressor of Large Capacity

Mitsui E&S has started to sell high flow-rate hydrogen compressors having a large flow-rate capacity of 1,000 Nm3/h class. The company aims first at getting them accepted in the European market where large-sized water electrolysis equipment is being introduced. It is a reciprocation-type compressor with a discharging capacity of 50MPa for a flow-rate of 1,055 Nm3/h (95kg/h) jointly developed with Kaji Technology which enjoys the leading domestic market share of compressor for hydrogen stations.

The compressor is a product of combination the company’s knowledge on the large-scaled compressor used for the petrochemical refining plants of own and Kaji ‘s technologies fostered for the high-pressure hydrogen compressors it has so far supplied actually at many times. Ever since 2023, the company has been making verifications like a long-term durability test for a concurrent aim to make a hydrogen supply system for hydrogen engines to be driven for the ships under development in Mitsui E&S’s Tamano Plant.
The company puts into view the expected demand of compressed hydrogen for the facilities to fill commercial vehicles like FC trucks which will be popularly introduced as prospective users of large flow-rate hydrogen compressors in the future.
Especially for the hydrogen generating system, the company aims at adoption as a compressor for the H2 generated by water electrolysis equipment not only for the domestic but also the European market which is going ahead with the requirements for a large-sized water electrolysis. To this end the suction pressure is designed to be 3MPa in order to meet the European discharge pressure of the water electrolysis equipment.
According to the company, one unit of the compressor is capable to boost the pressure of the H2 generated by the water electrolysis device of 5MW class.
