INPEX and JERA Jointly Examine Development of CCS Value Chain
INPEX and JERA concluded an agreement to implement jointly the examinations to develop a CCS value chain for separation and recovery of CO2 exhausted in Japan and then transportation to Australia for storing underground.
JERA is examining feasibility to separate and recover the CO2 exhausted from its power generating business and then to transport to abroad for an underground storage. On the other hand, INPEX already started to examine the CCS business on the Bonaparte Sedimentary Basin in Australian Northern Territory with TotalEnergies and Woodside Energy in the year before last in order to reduce the CO2 emission in its own LNG plant(Ichthys LNG Project)in Australia.
Bonaparte Sedimentary Basin is said to be suitable for the underground storage of CO2. It seems that the agreement between the two companies put in perspective to transport CO2 exhausted by JERA to the Australian basin for storing it underground.
