Iwatani Completes H2FC Ship for EXPO 2025
Iwatani completed hydrogen fuel cell ship named the MAHOROBA which had been built aiming to sail for the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, and arrived at the Osaka Nakanoshima Gate on October 18.
The hydrogen-fueled FC ship started to be built in 2021 under NEDO’s subsidization foreseeing to use it as a moving pavilion for the EXPO.
The ship uses the hydrogen fuel cell as its power source for sailing, which does not emit CO2 or any environmental hazardous substance. In addition to the high environmentally properties, the ship is characteristic to cause less odor, noise and oscillation.
They actually started to build the ship in June of last year, and implemented a launching ceremony in May of this year naming MAHOROBA. After finishing the interior work and test sailing, they toed the ship to Osaka safely at this time.
From now on, they will make a verification sail after getting a ship inspection certificate. In April of next year the ship will start sailing for marine transportation of the EXPO2025 Osaka-Kansai Japan.
