Air Water to supply biomethane derived from livestock to MEGMILK SNOW BRAND in Hokkaido

Air Water will start to supply renewable natural gas (biomethane) which is made from livestock excretion to MEGMILK SNOW BRAND’s Taiki Plant at the end of 2024.

Air Water operationalized production and selling of the biomethane derived from livestock in May of 2024, as an alternative fuel for LNG to reduce CO2 emission. They began to supply that to Tokachi Main Factory of Yotsuba Milk Products at that time. They have supplied the liquefied biomethane (LBM) by tank trucks after liquefying and purifying at Air Water’s LBM Production Plant in Obihiro city of Hokkaido.

For the project with MEGMILK, Air Water established the new system to transport gaseous biomethane which was produced at biogas plant of cattle farmers in the dedicated gas absorbing container to user sites. They will begin to supply the biomethane to Taiki Plant of MEGMILK at the end of 2024 as mentioned above.

In addition, Air Water achieved the test to use their biogas as a fuel for methane gas boiler after mixing that with biogas produced at existing methane fermentation facility of Taiki Plant. At this plant, around 50,000 Nm3/y of biomethane is consumed and around 100 t -CO2 equivalent per year of emission is reduced.

There is an advantage of cost reduction by transporting biomethane in gas when the cattle farmers which are their sources of raw material and consumer sites are located closely. Air Water is aiming to expand the market with meeting the needs of both cattle farmers and consumers stably in the future.
