Showa Denko shows growth in sales and profit for FY2011
Showa Denko revealed its annual closing for January-December period in 2011. Sales were up by 7.1%, operating profit by 22.3%, and net profit for this term by 33.6%, showing growth both in sales and profit.
In the chemicals segment, which includes the industrial gas business, sales were down by 2.5%, and operating profit down also by 63.8%. This was because of a reduction in the sales and profit of semiconductor material gas due to production adjustment in the liquid crystal sector, and the appreciation of yen. In addition, the sales in monetary terms of industrial gas decreased too in accordance with the decrease in volume sold. Financial results in this segment had been sluggish since the third quarter until the volume of ammonia sold began to increase in the fourth quarter. Consequently annual results in sales and profit decreased.
Regarding investment in this term, Showa Denko expanded its production of high purity ammonia in Japan, Taiwan, and China. Its total capacity for high purity ammonia increased from 3,000 tons to 5,000 tons a year.
Showa Denko Group transferred their air separation gas business, CO2 and dry ice business, as well as their compressed hydrogen business to their group company Showa Tansan. Showa Tansan changed its corporate name to Showa Denko Gas Products in January of this year.
