Sales of helium for 2011 reduced by 11.6%
Amount of helium sold in 2011 compiled by Japan Industrial Gases and Medical Association (JIMGA) came to 12.27 million m3, down by 11.6% from 2010.
Sales of gaseous helium came to 8.53 million m3, down by 10.8% compared with 2010. Of these, for use with optical fiber, which is the major application, was reduced by 7.1%, coming to 2.13 million m3, and for use with semiconductor was by 10.8%, coming to 1.87 million m3.
Sales of liquid helium came to 3.74 million m3, down by 13.2%. Of these, for use with MRI (NMR) was down by 17.4%, coming to 2.95 million m3.
