ALJ tackles sustainable involvements in support activities for Tohoku

“In collaboration with all Air Liquide Group’s member companies over the world, Air Liquide Japan is now engaged in supportive activities positively and continuously for the Tohoku District devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Establishing the internal emergency support program (ESP) immediately after the occurrence of the Earthquake, ALJ started a fund-raising campaign to Air Liquide’s employees all over the world. With the fund collected, ALJ presented pictorial books to the nursery schools, raised trees and plants on the devastated area and held a concert with the local junior high-school students and its staff in the day-care service center.

In 2008, the Air Liquide group also set up the “Air Liquide Foundation” with the intention to assist and promote its social contribution activities for such purposes as “to protect human life” or “to preserve environments”.

The group is carrying out its global assistance to the three fields of environmental protection, healthcare/respiratory function and micro-initiatives (regional activities) project.

On this foundation, Air Liquide donated microscopes to Miyagi and Iwate Fisheries Technology Centers as an assistance to save the oyster farm devastated by the Tsunami and also helped the construction of temporary public hall in Ishinomaki City of Miyagi Prefecture.

Furthermore, Air Liquide’s support activities are so versatile as seen in its donation of paints for the pictorial decoration on the LO2 tank for a new medication at the general hospital of devastated Kohriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, which was painted by the children of the neighbouring primary school, and also in presenting through Iwate University an LN2 batch freezer to the project which contributes to addition of high value to the marine products along the Sanriku Coast.

For the support activities in Tohoku, not only ALJ’s employees but also President Lepoutre and Chairman Koshi Kitadai participated as volunteers, who said “We intend to keep on tackling the activities.””
