Air Water expanding its food business
On September 28 Air Water will acquire Gold Pack, a company engaged in the production and marketing of all types of cold beverages such as vegetable juice. It will then turn it into a subsidiary.
Gold Pack is engaged in the production and marketing of all types of beverages such as fruited drinks, coffee, and tea, as well as fruit drinks under its own brand name. In addition, it is also engaged in OEM production for other major beverage companies. Its most recent sales (January, 2012 term) amounted to 39.6 billion yen, with a net profit of 900 million yen. As of January 31 it had 425 employees, with 2 plants, one in Matsumoto, and the other in Azumino, both in Nagano Prefecture.
Air Water is involved in the processing and wholesale of vegetables through its subsidiary Tomiichi, based in Hokkaido Prefecture. In addition, in the Shinano Region in Nagano Prefecture where the Gold Pack plants are located it is also engaged in agricultural business such as the cultivation of agricultural products such as tomatoes. Air Water is also involved in the business of the home delivery of mineral water. It reached a decision to acquire the Gold Pack stock as a means of achieving an efficient synergy regarding all of these businesses.
Air Water is restructuring its regional business, and is putting its agricultural products and beverage businesses on a course for new growth. With the addition of Gold Pack, Air Water will achieve greater depth for these businesses, and create a vertical setup ranging from production to distribution, down to wholesale. It therefore anticipates creation of a greater business synergy.
The company will also put a company in Hokkaido under its wing which is engaged in the frozen vegetable business. Air Water is involved in the processing and sales of frozen vegetables such as pumpkin and sweet corn in the two locations. It will acquire 90% of the issued stock as September 3 and turn the company into a subsidiary.
