Softbank participates in the business of supplying electricity for industrial use

As of the end of November of 2013 the major telecommunication company Softbank became involved in the business of supply electricity for commercial and industrial use employing fuel cells using city and biogas as the fuel. In May of 2013, in conjunction with the US venture capital company Bloom Energy (Sunnyville, California) it established a joint venture called Bloom Energy Japan (Minato Ward, Tokyo), with Bloom Energy and the Softbank Group each putting up half. First of all, a 200 kW fuel cell electric power generator was installed in the parking lot on the first floor of the Softbank building in Fukuoka. This is a trial for connecting the unit to the power system, as well as for supplying 75% of the power for the building. Masayoshi Son, a representative of Softbank, stated, “By working renewable energy such as solar power or wind power into fuel cells, we would like to create a new, distributed type grid which does not rely on nuclear power. We would like to make a clean, safe, and stable energy system.” He went on to explain the significance and reveal his enthusiasm regarding the business of supplying energy based on fuel cells. “Telecommunication technology can be fully utilized linked to any power generation grid.”
