“At around 10:45 on the morning of August 18 an explosion occurred at the OCI Materials plant in Yeongju, Korea. OCI Materials is a producer of specialty gas. The fire occurred because of a leakage and explosion of trichlorosilane (TCS). The resultant fire was extinguished at hour later. One worker was injured and taken to a hospital.

The method of silane (SiH4) production at the plant employs TCS as the raw material and it is assumed that the incident occurred where the TCS is refined. The incident was reported on by the Korean TV station KBS.”
