AWI developed compact LPG-driven mobile power-supply car

“Air Water developed an LPG-driven mobile power-supply car of compact type (9.8kW) for the first time in the world, and has exhibited it at the Security & Safety Trade Expo 2013 held in Tokyo Big Sight in October.

Since the development of the LPG-driven mobile power- supply of 100kW type in June last year, the company has carried out demonstration, disaster prevention training and disaster relief about 40 times all told. In response to requirements for a mobility-enhanced product of smaller type during such activities, the company had developed the compact type. As the power source can be loaded on the rear-deck of lightweight truck, you can drive and rush over to the scene of disaster passing through even narrow alleys or thickly-housed areas.

The car has on board a single-phase triple-stroke power generator of 20kVA made by Kohler Co., with a supply capacity of 9.8kW which covers a consumption equivalent to the need of four common households or about 2,450 cell phones.

LPG is procured for use locally at the disaster-stricken or some nearby areas. According to the company, as LPG is the most popular diffused energy used by 23.6 million households and business facilities in Japan, it is available locally even immediately after the disaster. That is why the company took advantage of the stable availability of LPG to develop its products. The company is going to proceed with sales promotion for power supply to shelters in a time of disaster and to gas stations suffering power outage, so that they may prepare for future emergency.”
