Dissolution of Taiheiyo Ekika Suiso at the end of March

On March 31, Taiheiyo Ekika Suiso owned by Showa Denko (putting up 60% of capital), Air Liquide Japan and Iwatani to produce liquefied hydrogen was dissolved. The company established in 1988 constructed a liquefied hydrogen plant of 900 liter per hour (711 Nm3/h) inside the premises of Showa Denko, Ohita City and was being functioned as a production center to supply liquefied hydrogen mainly for rocket fuel.

Due to the change in the business circumstances the operation of the plant was stopped at the end of 2013. The disposition of the residual asset including the removal of facilities had been implemented for dissolution. According to the Public Relations Office of Showa Denko, with the completion of preparatory setting in sight, an extraordinary shareholders meeting was held on March 28 to resolve the dissolution, and the influences on Showa Denko’s business result for the term seems to be slight.

After the dissolution, there are now three plants to produce liquefied hydrogen located in Japan, Hydro–Edge (Sakai City, Osaka) invested by Kansai Electric and Iwatani, Iwatani Industrial Gases, Chiba Plant (Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture) and Yamaguchi Liquid Hydrogen jointly owned by Iwatani Corporation and Tokuyama Corporation (Shunan City, Yamgaguchi Prefecture).
