Showa Denko reopens the distribution center for liquid ammonia

Showa Denko reopened its distribution center for liquid ammonia located in Fukushima Prefecture as of April which had been under construction for quite some time.

The former distribution center began operation in March of 2010 in the port of Soma, Fukushima Prefecture as a base for sending out liquid ammonia to 6 prefectures in the Tohoku area and to Niigata Prefecture as well. However, the facility was severely damaged by the tidal wave caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11 of the following year. As a result of this, liquid ammonia was then supplied to customers directly from the Showa Denko plant in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. Now rebuilt, Showa Denko has begun operation again the Showa Denko Tohoku Ammonia Center.
This has enabled the company to establish a setup whereby it can again supply ammonia stably to the Tohoku Area as well as to Niigata.

The liquid ammonia supplied by the company is a product which employs used plastic as its part of its source. It has been approved of as a green procurement product by electric companies and has been well received. Liquid ammonia is used as coating in manufacturing processes such as in the production of synthetic fiber as well as for the surface treatment of metal components used for cars and construction equipment. It is also used for the removal of nitrogen oxide (NOx) contained in the smoke emitted from electric power stations and rubbish incinerators. Among these applications, electric power stations are expected to provide a strong demand as a high continuous operational ratio is predicted for them.
