IIG transfers its cryogenic equipment business to Ulvac Cryogenics
Ulvac Cryogenics is a member of the Ulvac group, of which Ulvac accounts for 50% of the capital and Brooks Automation 50%. Agreement has been reached whereby the manufacturing and marketing of cryogenic equipment which had been handled by the Engineering Division of Iwatani Industrial Gases (IIG) will be transferred to Ulvac Cryogenics. Ulvac Cryogenics has set May for the start of operation.
Iwatani Industrial Gases had been expanding business as the major manufacturer of cryogenic equipment, chiefly a cryogenic freezer called Cryostat and other super cryogenic freezers. It terminated the manufacture of this equipment as of the end of March of last year.
Ulvac Cryogenics is a specialized producer of cryogenic pumps which are used in equipment and devices which employ vacuums for semiconductor fabrication devices, as well as in manufacturing facilities for flat panel displays, and optical film.
For years it has had a good track record of sales in Japan and to the Asian region. In 2009 it entered the business of cryogenic freezers used in the superconductive, medical equipment, measuring instrument and cold cylinder fields. With the current transfer of business activities, the company will be able to add super cryogenic equipment to its product line. Furthermore it will acquire technology related to the cryogenic area. It will also strive for achieving vigorous technological innovation through the resulting synergetic effects. The company also plans to promote entrance into the superconductive and medical equipment fields.
