Showa Denko bought San Fu’s high-purity chlorine business in Taiwan
Showa Denko (SDK) agreed with Air Products San Fu of the Air Products Group to acquire its high-purity chlorine business operations. The acquisition was realized through Taiwan Showa Chemicals Manufacturing (TSCM) of SDK’s Taiwanese affiliate. The whole business including the high-purity chlorine purifying plant (with a capacity of 300t per year) located in Kaohsiung will be transferred with a schedule of end August). No detail of amount has been disclosed.
The Showa Denko Group has a production facility of high-purity chlorine with an annual production capacity of 1,000 tons in its Kawasaki Plant. For the moment the product is exported from the plant to Taiwan, Korea and China. After the acquisition at this time, however, a local production/consumption system will be realized in the Taiwanese market with group’s supply capacity to be increased by 30%.
According to SDK’s PR Office, the East Asian market of high-purity chlorine is expected to grow up to 2,000 tons in 2015 up from 1,800 tons of last year. SDK’s market share now stays at 40% but the acquisition will lead the share close to 50%.
