Toashiba commenced operation of the Fab5 at Yokkaichi plant in Mie Prefecture partly to produce NAND type flush memory. However, the plan for full operation will be postponed.

While electronics industry has been stagnant in Japan, Samsung Electronics and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) seem to resume investment in Korea and Taiwan.
