Delivery of semiconductor machines increased globally in 2014
According to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), the semiconductor manufacturing machines delivered globally in 2014 amounted to 37.5 billion US dollars in monetary terms, which was an increase by 17.9% comparing with the previous year.
On a regional basis there were increases in all countries except for Taiwan.
As for Taiwan which marked 9.41 billion US dollars down by 10.9%, its top-ranked share remained unchanged maintaining a high level position. It seems that the decrease was attributed to the rebound to TSMC’s substantial capital investment in 2013, but TSMC announced its plan of capital investment in the amount of 11.5 to 12.0 billion US dollars for 2015. Therefore, an increase is expected this year.
As for North America, it marked 8.16 billion US dollars corresponding to 54.8% increase over the previous year, attributing supposedly to the investment by Intel which is going to make a full-scale entry to the foundry business.
