Iwatani to enter market for electric power for home
In April of this year, Iwatani will enter the business of sales of electric power for the home in the Kanto (the East part of Japan) and Tokyo metropolitan areas. It will procure electricity from the Kansai Electric Power subsidiary Kanto Energy Solution. It will sell electricity to its LP gas users (general households) through its 2 LP gas sales subsidiaries in the Tokyo municipal area. On December 21 of last year it completed the registration process at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry as a retail electric power distributor.
Its 2 subsidiaries in this region have respectively 80,000 and 30,000 users, making for a total of 110,000 users. Iwatani plans to develop the business by marketing such Iwatani products as LP gas and home-delivery natural water along with electricity combined as a set. The company has not come out with a specific statement regarding the price of the electricity. However, it will arrange for a lower price range than that of existing electric power companies by offering it as part of a set deal. Faced with the overall liberalization of retail of electricity as of April of this year, the company will bring in a combined electric power sales model in advance into the Kanto market which should become an area of really tough competition. Along with preparations to compete with its competitors, it is also aiming at a deeper perception for future development nationwide.
