Lectures by the Foundation for Research and Diffusion of FC Ships
On October 7, the Foundation for Research and Diffusion of Battery-powered Ships (Representative Director: Hirotoshi Kazama) engaging to support the diffusion and technologies of battery-powered ships held a symposium titled “Future Prospect of FC-powered Vehicles and Ships” at the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.
The symposium started last year aiming for contribution to people’s deeper understanding, diffusion and development of battery-powered ships. From this time new contents related to FC-powered ships has been added and a total of 116 persons got together including those from the FC-related industries, research institutes and the residents of the ward.
Hirotoshi Kazama, representative director of the research foundation said in his opening address, “This association established for the diffusion of battery-powered ships now commemorates the third year.
We wish to keep striving to diffuse battery-powered ships and to realize the practical operation of FC-powered ships.”
The speech was followed by the lectures as detailed below for the participants, which described the business trend toward fuel cells and the current activities for the future diffusion of FC ships including the method to supply hydrogen and the estimated generation volume of FC to be loaded on ships.
The lectures were given by Nobuhiro Saito (Senior Researcher of Honda R&D Co., Ltd. under the title of “Toward the Development of FC Vehicles and Hydrogen Society”, Shouhei Matsuda (Director & Chief Engineer of Toshiba FC System) under the titled of “The Development Trend of Stationary FC System and Movement toward Hydrogen Society” and Tsuyoshi Ode (Research Professor of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology in charge of the Next-Generation Maritime Traffic System Engineering Project) who described the examinations of FC-powered ship with FC actually loaded on “RAICHO N”.
