Honeywell to supply UK retailers with new refrigerant R448A

Honeywell is going to supply Tesco of a large-scale supermarket chain of United Kingdom with a new refrigerant R448A for a period of three years from now.

R448A is an HFC/HFO (5 types mixed) blended refrigerant as a substitute of R404A for freezing/refrigerating equipment for business use. Honeywell’s trade name is “SOLSTICE N40,” which is characteristic mainly in its low GWP value, non-flammability and near-drop-in to the equipment dedicated for R404A.

Tesco supports the Paris Agreement of the international Meeting in November 2015, and is tackling to reduce CO2 in its own group. The adoption of R448A is part of the policy. In practical terms, the current refrigerants in use (mainly R404A) will be changed to R448A within three years at the 1,200 shops of its supermarket being operated in UK. They say it will be able to reduce CO2 by 40% at maximum and that 60 shops have already changed the refrigerant.

R. Kevin, Global Business Manager of Honeywell Fluorine Chemicals Division announced a statement, saying “Solstice N40 is highly evaluated as an optimum solution and it is anticipated that a refrigerant of high GWP will be decreased and we recommend an early change to the new refrigerant.”
