Showa Denko forms US affiliate to sell gases for electronics

Showa Denko (SDK) established a fully owned affiliate Showa Chemical of America (SCA) in Austin, Texas to sell high-purity gases for electronics and also chemical products for its sales operation to start on October 2017. The new affiliate will start to work with a tentative sales target of US$20 million (about JPY2.2 billion) per year.

SDK’s business activities for electronics gases in the US has so far been done through Showa Denko America which is a locally incorporated affiliate. On the other hand, SDK’s stable supply of gas to the Asian bases of US semiconductor manufacturers brought a good evaluation, and it resulted in the quite sufficient offers for supply of gases in the US. Therefore, SDK decided to establish a new company SCA in Austin, Texas to enlarge its business and collect information of the most advanced field. 
 
The new affiliate started business with three persons including Naoto Katayama president, having its office in the city and a gas store (1300m3) for leasing in the vicinity. SDK is going to prepare as the main business items etching gases like ammonia, hydrogen bromide and octafluorocyclobutane which SDK produces in Japan and Asia. However, now that the company advocates to convince itself as “Asian Representative of Specialty Gas,” it also will handle as a distributor specialty gases not produced by itself but other companies.

The target of sales amount posted by the new company is an accomplishment of US$20 million (about JPY2.2 billion) per year at an early date. Much attention will be drawn to the future trend and what development of business will be made in the US by SDK which has developed production centers of specialty gases in the Asian zone.
