Sumitomo Seika to absorb Seika Engineering

On September 28, Sumitomo Seika Chemicals signed an agreement to amalgamate Seika Engineering which is fully-owned subsidiary, being engaged in designing and production of CE containers and chemical plants, with effect from 1st January, 2018.

Seika Engineering was born by spin-off of the production department of Sumitomo Seika’s Chemical Engineering Business Division then and established under the name of Seika Construction in 1976 and renamed to the present name in 1989. The latest turnover (FY2016 ending December) amounted to 798million. Its business lineup comprises of the production of storage tanks, tank trucks, evaporators and various supply equipment, with the addition of handling of CO2 fire extinguishers for marine use.

Recently Seika Engineering has been tackling a new business in the field of energy as seen in the joint development of the LNG supply system for ships with Sanoyas Shipbuilding. Sumitomo Seika Chemicals intends to proceed with further developments of new business in the focusing field of environment and energy taking advantage of Seika Engineering’s know-how of designing and producing various equipment.

This amalgamation is an absorption-type merger with Sumitomo Seika Chemicals as a surviving company, while Seika Engineering will be dissolved at the date of amalgamation. The business being deployed now will be transferred to Sumitomo Seika’s Equipment System Department of its Gases Division.
