Global semiconductor equipment market grew 36% over last year in 2017

On the day before SEMICON Japan 2017 which opened from December 13, SEMI held a press interview. Ajit Manocha president & CEO of SEMI said, “There is no change that Japan like the US is still the leader of semiconductor industry with a high technological power having a global market share of 30% or more amounting to over $50 billion in the semiconductor equipment and 50% or more in wafer fab materials amounting to $60 billion.” Katsutaka Kimura chief of SEMICON Japan Promotion Committee (executive director of Hitachi High Technologies) also spoke about the aim saying, “Japan takes the lead in the world in the fields of memories, sensors, analogs, micon and power devices. Japanese companies greatly contribute to the global market of semiconductor in the materials of semiconductor manufacturing equipment and electronics parts. I wish this SEMICON Japan will be a place of magic to create discovery of a new value nobody ever anticipated.”

Jonathan Davis SEMI’s global vice president of advocacy showed forecast saying, “The world market of semiconductor equipment in 2017 marked a record high accomplishment amounting to $55.9 billion up 36% over last year. It is expected that the amount will be $60.1 billion up 7.5% next year. Japan marked $60.2 billion up 30% over last year in 2017, and it is expected that the amount will be $62.4 billion up 3.7% next year.” Osamu Nakamura representing SEMI Japan explained the outline of SEMICON Japan.
