Ulvac Cryo Donates LIN Generator to Chengu Panda Breeding Base

Ulvac Cryogenics donated one unit of liquid nitrogen (LIN) generator to make liquid nitrogen from ambient air for sperm storage to the Chengu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in China, and held the ceremony of presentation locally on November 15.

The idea of donation was brought to the company when a staff in charge of the Chinese breeding facility visited Ulvac Cryo’s Kyoto Plant and showed interest in the LIN generator. The staff dropped in at the plant after taking a trip to a zoo in Wakayama. As no budget was secured by the breeder to purchase the generator, Ulvac Cryo made up its mind to make donation with a thought of “significant contribution to society to conserve rare animals.”

The donated model is LIN Generator EMP-07A which is capable to generate 7 liters per day of liquid nitrogen. The presentation ceremony on the 15th was attended by president Takeshi Haginouchi who directly handed a logbook of the donation.

The sub-manager of the research base expressed a gratitude and said, “This facility started to conserve and breed 6 wild pandas thirty years ago and we have 196 pandas now. We have deepened relations through pandas with many companies and Japan. We do appreciate Ulvac Cryo’s donation of liquid nitrogen generator. For the time being we would like to use it to preserve the sperm, ovum and stem cell of panda. However, as we are now in a position to assume responsibility to conserve and breed the other rare animals, we wish to apply the same preservation of the cells of other animals in the future.”
