Chemours-Mitsui’s Low-GWP Refrigerant Awarded for Adoption by Toshiba Carrier and Panasonic

Chemours-Mitsui Fluoroproducts successfully got awarded the adoption of its low-GWP refrigerant to replace R404A by most of the major freezing/refrigerating unit manufacturers like Toshiba Carrier and Panasonic. Chemours-Mitsui’s products which were developed to replace R404A are R449A (newly registered as OPTEON XP40) and R452A (similarly as OPTEON XP44).

R449A is a key product for freezing/refrigerating in business use and also for the showcases of shops. Its GWP is 1397 realizing a reduction of 67% comparing with R404A. As for its efficiency, it can improve 8 to 12% of R404A and is applicable to a retro-fit of the existing equipment.
The gas used is a mixture of four types of R32, R125, R1234yf and R134a, classified as non-flammable (A1) in terms of combustion property. The major two companies of Toshiba Carrier and Panasonic decided to adopt R449A and are planning to launch their products responding to the refrigerant in this summer or later.

R452A likewise is a refrigerant to replace R404A, but a product dedicated to be used for freezing/refrigerating units for transportation. Comparing with R449A, the discharge temperature is designed to control so that freezing effects may not be lowered to withstand transportation conditions. Its GWP is 2140 which corresponds to 50% of that to R404A. It is a mixture of three gases of R32, R125 and R1234yf having non-flammable properties. R452A has been adopted by the major three freezing/refrigerating unit manufacturers for transportation.

The top manufacturer of the three companies started to employ the product two years ago which was intended also for verification purposes, and is said to have already delivered nearly 100 units.

Chemours-Mitsui made arrangements to establish a supply system to obtain such adoption, and newly built up a mixture filling line for these refrigerants in its Shimizu Plant several years ago. The company said, ”The recognized energy-saving effects and the environmental adaptability led to the adoption, and we are going to go ahead with our proposition sales with confidence on our product’s power from now on.”
