SDK Invests for SPG Production in Taiwan and Shanghai

Showa Denko is going to construct production bases of specialty gases in Taiwan and Shanghai. In Taiwan octafluorocyclobutane (C4F8) for etching will be produced, while in Shanghai the same gas plus high purity nitrous oxide (N2O) as material for oxide film will be produced. The total investment will amount to about JPY3 billion.

SDK is proceeding with its plan on local production for local consumption, practically producing high-quality N2O in its Kawasaki Operation and Korea Anseong (Approx.1800 tons/year). As for C4F8, Kawasaki and Shanghai No.1 Plant are producing a total of 500 tons/year. This time the investment is intended to enhance the local production for local consumption activity.

In Taiwan, SDK newly builds up a plant to produce 150 tons/year of high-purity C4F8 in its local subsidiary Taiwan Showa Chemicals MFG Co.,Ltd. for a planned operation to start in spring 2020.

In Shanghai, SDK is going to construct a new plant named SSE Plant No.2 to produce C4F8 and N2O on the site of about 10 million m2 adjacent to Shanghai Showa Electronics Materials Co. (SSE) Plant No. 1. A planned capacity of production will be 600 tons per year for C4F8 and 1000 tons per year for N2O.

Like Plant No.1, SDK plans to construct a high-pressure dangerous cargo warehouse in the new plant, so that it may meet the requirements for the supply chain under the reinforcing control on chemicals in China. The plant is scheduled to start operation in the latter half of 2021.
