Chugoku Kogyo Examines Production of Next-generation High-pressure Gas Container

Chugoku Kogyo manufacturer of welded cylinders is producing the main body of next generation high-pressure gas container, which is planned to start for an experimental use from this summer. The next generation high-pressure gas container named “CubiTan” of which main body is produced by the company is a high-pressure gas container packed in a cubic case of 30cm square.

As it is box-shaped, you can stack vertically allowing a smaller space comparing with the conventional container. It is actually being developed by Atomis which is a startup of MOF. and the built-in filling container is manufactured by Chugoku Kogyo.

The capacity of container is 10ℓ with the maximum filling pressure at 14.7MPa (at a designed pressure of 22Mpa) in a spherical shape sized 280mm in diameter, 290mm long weighing 3.8kg. It is produced in the plant adjacent to the head office in a scale of 100 to 200 containers per month.

The types of gas for filling are nitrogen, LCO2, argon and helium. The container is used commonly for all the gases. The operation period is two years and those who are applied for experimental operation are mainly the companies related to Atomos.

In addition, on the other hand, CubiTan is planned for use also to verify the delivery of bio-gasses and CNG in Indonesia.

For the domestic experiment, it is used as a general high-pressure gas container, but for the verification in Indonesia, the company plans to fill MOF first and then fill CNG into the container.

The verification is being carried out jointly by Yachiyo Engineering of construction consultant and Atomis. As of June 2025, they are proceeding with collection of necessary data towards verification of delivery.

They plan to start delivery in this autumn. The obtained data will be also utilized in the Tokyo Metropolitan subsidy projects to operate to MOF-filled Cubitan domestically.

Chugoku Kogyo Starts to sell FRP LPG Cylinder (8kg) of own Development from July

LPG container “PLACOMPO” is a light-weight cylinder with glass fiber wrapped around the plastic liner.

The company has so far been selling three types of cylinders, which are 7.5kg type imported from Ragasco and 17kg/20kg types of own development.

However, before the expiration of contract to import the cylinder from Ragasco, the company developed an 8kg cylinder as the substitute of the 7.5kg type.

The noticeable features of PLACOMPO are light weight and little amount of CO2 emission in production comparing with the other steel cylinders of the same type. Comparing the 20kg PLACOMPO cylinder with the other welded cylinders to fill 20kg, the weight reduced to 10.3kg which is a decrease by 40%. The replacement of material with FRP instead of steel brought a great decrease in weight.

In addition, the CO2 emission from the production was lowered by 32% comparing with the 20kg steel-made container. In terms of comparison with aluminum alloy containers, the emission decreased to 78%.

The light-weight container is said to contribute to realize a decarbonized society as well as the mitigation of burden to the delivery staff. Furthermore, there are other features such as the beautiful appearance unlike steel cylinders and the possible visual recognition of remaining liquid level and also high corrosion-proof properties to prevent salt damages.
