Siemens EnergyIntroduces large-scale electrolyzer to Himeji Rika Tamura Plant

Siemens Energy is going to introduce a solid polymer (PEM type) water electrolyzing device to Himeji Rika Tamura Plant.

Himeji Rika Tamura Plant is now tackling a theme titled “Technological Development of Distributed Hydrogen Supply and Utilization System” based on green gas as core in Fukushima Prefecture which is subsidy project of NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) to develop hydrogen society technology, in corporation with Tomoe Shokai as main player, Himeji Rika, Yamanashi Prefectural Enterprise Bureau and Yamanashi Hydrogen Company.

The project aims to realize production of CO2-free green hydrogen and green oxygen by operating the electrolyzer operated by renewable energy and Tohoku Electric’s electricity with a tracking-free device in the plant. After delivery to the hydrogen/oxygen burner for use in the quartz glass production process of Himeji Rika they plan to take advantage of it for decarbonization of the plant.

In addition, the surplus hydrogen generated by the electrolyzer is supplied by Tomoe Shokai to Himeji Rika’s subsidiaries which are scattered around. The water electrolyzing device of Siemens Energy will be associated into the P2G system and it is planned to adopt PEM electrolyzer of more than 14.8MW. The plant plans to produce annually up to 1,900 t of hydrogen.
