Taiyo Nippon Sanso in collaboration with Nippon Express (NX) starts inter-base transportation of specialty gases by railway. Specialty gases (SPG) are delivered from Kawasaki Plant to Tagajo Operation (Miyagi Pref.) of Taiyo Nippon Sanso JFP which is a group company to produce and sell SPG for transportation to each base in Tohoku Area (north eastern Japan). 

 In the transportation system, they use railway of JR Freight Railway from Tokyo Freight Terminal Station (Shinagawa Ward of Tokyo) to Sendai Port Station or Sendai Cargo Terminal Station (both located in Sendai City of Miyagi Pref.)  

For transportation between stations and business operation base they will use trucks. They have made it possible to load 64 cylinders (containing 47ℓ each ) at maximum on a 12ft container for railway transportation. No information is disclosed about the types of gas, volume and frequency of transportation. 

SPG products have so far been produced by Taiyo Nippon Sanso JFP and delivered by trucks across the country.  During these years semiconductor plants have been newly constructed and expanded to a great extent across the country and accordingly demand expansion has been expected for SPG. On the other hand, it has been pointed out as an issue that an expansion of transporting capacity is needed controversially. Thanks to the addition of railway transportation network, the capacity is expected to be improved to a large extent. 

  Furthermore, the utilization of railway transportation leads to the reduction of greenhouse gases. According to Taiyo Nippon Sanso, the emission of greenhouse gas is reduced to one tenth of that of truck transportation for the same sectional distance. Taiyo Nippon Sanso says it can contribute to the emission reducing target (Scope 3) of the greenhouse gas of the whole supply chain.  

Nippon Express of the partner tackling together is exploring to develop quite a few types of transportation across the country. Since April 2023, Taiyo Nippon Sanso has been jointly engaged to assure the quality of transportation and examinations.

On that Taiyo Nippon Sanso could make it sure that there is no problem in the actual operation on site in addition to no influence to cylinders by external temperature and oscillation, the regular operation has been realized.
