On March 27, Taiyo Nippon Sanso (TNSC) inaugurated its new development base in Kihara Memorial Bio Industry Center of Yokohama City (Kanagawa Prefecture), aiming to apply the easy-and-quick synthesis production technology of “Cell-free Protein Synthesis” to various proteins using the enzyme which exists in stable isotope and escherichia coli. It is intended also for application to the production of functional proteins usable in the regenerative medicine.
This attempt is part of the SI (Stable Isotope) business which TNSC is said to dominate the world market, and the technology has been developed under the license of Institute of Physical and Chemical Research for the production and screening of proteins by stable isotope since 2000 or so. As mentioned, in the protein synthesis done by pharmaceutical companies, universities and public research institutes it has so far taken much time and work to prepare and cultivate because of handling microorganisms and incubation of living cells. It is characteristic that the attempts this time will be able to solve such matters. Since 2011, the company has been providing a kit to make users use easily the technology. In addition, from the viewpoint of convenience, the company gave a comment, ”Recently it has been highly expected that the functional protein like cell growth factor for regenerative medicine may be produced by the technology. It led to the inauguration of the new center for development.”
