Manned 'drone' to fly over Osaka Exposition with hydrogen engine

Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry starts development project in cooperation with local small and medium-size companies

Development of a manned 'drone' that flies on hydrogen has been started. The Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry has started the development plan for a one-man, hydrogen-rotary-engine-powered drone called the HyDrone as part of their Kansai Smart Energy Initiative for pushing forward the promotion of smart energy industry . A preparatory committee was initiated on January 21 to establish a development structure, and the committee is currently calling for active participation in this project from small and medium-size companies in the Kinki Region. The immediate goal is a demonstration flight at the Osaka/Kansai Expo scheduled to be held in Osaka in 2025. (Full text available in The Gas Review magazine No.465)
